The Sebastian Student Health Center on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University has received a 3-year accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

Accreditation is awarded to organizations that are found to be in compliance with AAAHC Standards.

“This accreditation is the gold standard for College Health Services Centers in the USA,” said Dr. Melody Pierce, vice chancellor of Student Affairs.

Representatives from AAAHC visited the university Dec. 3-4. To maintain the full three-year term, a written plan for improvement to address student rights has to be submitted so that compliance with the AAAHC standards can be reviewed.

“They passed with flying colors and this is a big boost to staff morale,” Pierce said.

According to Pierce, N.C. A&T is the fifth campus in the UNC System to receive this accreditation. At this time, the university is awaiting the results of an accreditation visit from the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS) for The Counseling Center.
