Black Girls Run!, a fitness organization with chapters across the land, will convene a national conference in Charlotte later this year.

Hundreds of women from across the nation are expected to attend the three-day gathering, Sept. 6-8, including many from Winston-Salem’s BGR! chapter. It will be held at the Westin Charlotte, 601 S. College St.

The conference will include interactive workshops, dynamic speakers and seminars on running, health, nutrition and other wellness topics. Attendees will let their hair down at a Friday evening mixer and a Saturday night dinner. The conference will culminate with, you guessed it, a 5K and 10K race on Sunday, Sept. 8.

The organization’s mission is to encourage African American women to make fitness and healthy living a priority. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 80 percent of African American women are overweight.

Early registration for the entire weekend will open on April 1. For more information, go to www.blackgirlsrun.com.
