Davidson County Community College will feature former NBA star Muggsy Bogues as he presents “Succeed on Your Own Terms” as part of its Campus Speaker Series. The event will be held from 11 a.m. until noon on March 27 in the Conference Center of the Davidson Campus. The event is open to the public.

Bogues, former Wake Forest University all-star and former NBA star of the Washington Bullets, Charlotte Hornets, Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors, stands at just 5 foot 3 inches and overcame amazing odds to become an NBA standout. He retired from professional play ranking at No. 16 among all time assist leaders in the league. Since leaving the NBA, Bogues has worked in the real estate business and is a partner with Underwood Specialty Advertising doing promotional advertising. He became head coach of the Charlotte Sting in the Women’s National Basketball Association and was with them until the team folded in 2007. Most recently, he has worked with the Charlotte Bobcats as team ambassador and radio announcer.

Bogues has hosted basketball clinics for more than 20 years where he is able to spread his positive message – that anything is possible, both on and off the court. And the campus event will present the same thing – a positive, motivational message, says Lynne Watts, director of Student Life and Leadership at DCCC.

“Muggsy Bogues is a true inspiration to anyone who might think they aren’t good enough; aren’t big enough,” Watts says. “He provides an enthusiastic message that you can really do anything if you put your mind to it, and that’s something that will resonate with our students and community.”
