SECCA hosting mobile media film competition

The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) is sponsoring its second annual Mobile Media Mini Movies (M4) competition. M4 explores the creative and expressive potential of today’s most widely owned film medium — the mobile phone. The broad availability of mobile phone cameras puts movie making in everyone’s hands, from first-timers to experienced producers alike.

SECCA – in partnership with a/perture cinema, NC Piedmont Triad Film Commission and Wake Forest University’s Film Studies program and The Snob Shop – is accepting submissions until March 31 in the categories of Narrative, Documentary, Experimental and Special theme: Texture and Tactility.

The contest is open to anyone living in North Carolina. Films produced for the contest must be created on a mobile device such as a cell phone, mp3 player or a tablet. Participants can only submit one entry (this means a total of one film not one per category). Films can be no longer than 120 seconds in length.

Each film submission must finish with a screen shot listing the name of the entrant, a contact phone number and e-mail address. Films that do not contain this information will not be judged in the competition.(The contact information slide will not be included in the running time of the video.)

One winner will be selected in each category that will receive a one-on-one consultation and lunch on the town with a film expert from Wake Forest University, UNC School of the Arts or the film industry as a winning prize.

The competition finale will be held at SECCA, 750 Marguerite Drive, on Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m. There is no charge to submit a film. Films may be uploaded to the Vimeo M4 site  http://vimeo.com/groups/m4competition from now until March 31. For a complete list of rules, please visit www.secca.com.
