In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Carter G. Woodson School will host their annual Hispanic Heritage Festival to celebrate the unique diversity and contributions of Hispanic and Latino culture. The Hispanic Heritage Festival will be held at the Carter G. Woodson School on Oct. 15 from 12-4 p.m. This event will include live music, cultural dance performances, free food, classroom displays, and a mariachi band.

Representatives from the school and the ESOL department will be sharing information about the services they provide to assist families and community members.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the community to come together and share our pride in Carter G. Woodson School’s diverse culture. We hope to create a lasting tradition at the Carter G. Woodson School for future generations to come,” said Rasheeda Shankle, who heads the festival planning committee.

Carter G. Woodson School’s desire is to offer opportunities to show cultural pride within all cultures. “Understanding different cultures is a positive educational goal and learning about the history and background of different cultures helps the entire Winston-Salem community to grow and learn more progressively in our now diverse community each day. The more you know, the more you grow,” said Ruth Hopkins, interim director. The Carter G. Woodson School is a local charter school serving grades Kindergarten through 12th and is a place where every child is taught in a challenge-friendly, nurturing, and constructive learning environment.

The Carter G. Woodson School invites the community to join their children, parents, teachers, staff, and board of directors of the school to help celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The event is free and open to the public.
