The Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks Department and A-Visions brought rapper “Jamal” to the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center last Friday to perform for the neighborhood kids and give them some advice from someone inside the industry.

Over 1,000 fans turned out on a hot day last Saturday at LeBauer Park in Greensboro to enjoy the music of well-known Blues bands and to honor the legacy of Blind Boy Fuller and recognize Big Ron Hunter with the “Keeping the Blues Alive” award.

May is National Teacher Appreciation Month and two residents of Hunt Park senior apartments shared memories of their special teachers.
It was by chance that Dale Link’s quilting talents were recognized recently with a gold medal at the Piedmont Plus Senior Games/SilverArts competition. Although she had been sewing since she was in junior high school in the 1950s and quilting since the ‘70s, she hadn’t intended to make the rector’s and deacon’s stoles that won her a gold medal.
