GREENSBORO—Chuck Wallington has been promoted to executive vice president and chief marketing & communications officer for Cone Health. As such, he joins Cone Health’s senior-most leadership team.

Since joining Cone Health in April 2011, Wallington has built a talented team of professionals focused on providing strategic marketing and communications support across Cone Health. Under Wallington’s leadership, this team has launched award-winning advertising campaigns, including one focused on sharing patients’ stories of exceptional care.

“The elevation of this role reflects the strategic importance of marketing and communications to the achievement of our purpose, vision and strategic priorities,” says Terry Akin, CEO, Cone Health. “At the same time, Chuck has proven himself to be a vital asset to our leadership team and the right person for this critical role.”

Wallington brings more than 30 years of marketing and communications experience in a variety of sectors, including health care, consumer packaged goods and financial services. Prior to joining Cone Health, he was a vice president at American Express.

A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, Wallington has a master’s degree in communications management from Syracuse University and is pursuing his doctorate in leadership studies at North Carolina A&T State University. He is a trustee of the National Institute for Public Relations, a board member of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, a leader at St. James Presbyterian Church, and a member of two fraternal service organizations, Sigma Pi Phi and Alpha Phi Alpha, for which he serves as president of the local chapter.
