Volunteers needed

This fall would be the ideal time to begin your next adventure in volunteering. The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston Salem is seeking volunteers to serve in transportation, visitation/respite and minor home repair. We value your time and we’re offering flexibility options that can satisfy you and our participants. Caregiver support

The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association is pleased to offer a new Caregiver Support Group, conducted by a trained facilitator and providing a safe place for caregivers of people living with dementia to develop a support system, explore ways of coping, and learn about resources. The group meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, 10 -11:30 a.m., at The Shepherd’s Center (upper level), 1700 Ebert Street. 2nd & 4th Saturdays

Cemetery Cleanup

Volunteers are needed at the Happy Hill Cemetery on the 2nd and 4th Saturday mornings from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Wear sturdy shoes, bring gloves and any yard equipment you have. Ninth to 12th grade students are encouraged especially if you need service hours. LOCATION: 888 Willow Street at the intersection of Pitts and Willow Street off Free Street. Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga each Tuesday from 1:30-2:15 p.m. at Knollwood Baptist Church Wellness & Community Center, 330 Knollwood St. No registration, no charge. Options make it accessible for all. For more information contact Gayle5088@gmail.com.

 

NOW – Oct. 11

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Registration is now underway for a Powerful Tools for Caregivers class. Family members or friends caring for a frail or ill loved one will learn strategies for caring for themselves while caring for another. Classes will take place at the Shepherd’s Center, 1700 Ebert Street, on Wednesdays, 10 a.m. – noon, Sept. 6-Oct. 11. There is no charge, but donations are accepted to help cover the cost of the workbook. Registration is required. Class size is limited so early registration is suggested.

45th class reunion

The R.J. Reynolds High School Class of 1978 will hold their 45th reunion Oct. 14, in Winston-Salem. There will be live music and food by Mr. Barbecue. There is a fee. Medicare sessions

The Medicare Annual Open Enrollment period will take place from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7. The open enrollment sessions will allow Medicare beneficiaries to review their Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare drug plans and make the necessary changes for 2024. Annual enrollment assistance will be provided by volunteers and staff of the Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem, the Forsyth County coordinating site for the North Carolina Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP). Appointments must be made by calling the Shepherd’s Center at 336-748-0217 during weekdays from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
