Caregiver support

The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association is pleased to offer a new Caregiver Support Group, conducted by a trained facilitator and providing a safe place for caregivers of people living with dementia to develop a support system, explore ways of coping, and learn about resources. The group meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, 10 -11:30 a.m., at The Shepherd’s Center (upper level), 1700 Ebert Street. 2nd & 4th Saturdays

Cemetery Cleanup

Volunteers are needed at the Happy Hill Cemetery on the 2nd and 4th Saturday mornings from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Wear sturdy shoes, bring gloves and any yard equipment you have. Ninth to 12th grade students are encouraged especially if you need service hours.  LOCATION: 888 Willow Street at the intersection of Pitts and Willow Street off Free Street. Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga each Tuesday from 1:30-2:15 p.m. at Knollwood Baptist Church Wellness & Community Center, 330 Knollwood Street. No registration, no charge. Options make it accessible for all. For more information contact Gayle5088@gmail.com.

NOW – Aug. 11

Little Theatre summer camp

The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem will provide a “Summer of Wonder” this year with its 2023 Summer Camps. Between June and August, LTWS will offer six theatre camps for kids: Spamalot (Young @Part), Who?? Character Development, Made Up Story, Drama VS Comedy, Make A Scene, and Intro To Improv.  All camps are open to the community, and previous acting experience is not required. Liberty Street Urban Farmers Market open

The Liberty Street Urban Farmer’s Market is now open. Hours will be from 2-4 p.m. on Tuesdays through Aug. 29, except Aug. 8 when the market will be closed. The market is at 1551 N. Liberty St. in Winston-Salem. The market provides a venue for urban farmers as well as other local vendors. The market has room for additional vendors. More information about the market, including an application for new vendors, is posted at CityofWS.org/LSM. 

Aug. 3- Sept. 21

Parenting grandchildren sessions

Senior Services is offering Parenting a Second Time Around (PASTA), an eight-week study group for adults 55+ living in Forsyth County who are parenting their grandchildren or other minor relatives. These classes will help participants explore new options and opportunities, learn to overcome challenges as well as celebrate the joys of kinship caregiving. The group will meet Thursdays, Aug. 3–Sept. 21, from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. at Senior Services, 2895 Shorefair Drive.

Aug. 14

Call for artists

Call for entries to hang art in a highly visible exhibit space in the “Salem Foyer’’ on the main floor of The Benton Convention Center. The AAWS Member exhibit walls are on the right-hand side of the Salem Foyer. The space is well-suited for very large 2D art, but all 2D work will be considered. The exhibit runs through the winter into spring but there is NO required theme at the Benton. Entries will be selected by a committee of AAWS jurors who will curate the show. Selections are limited to approximately 15-25 pieces depending on size. Entry deadline is Monday, August 14.  For more information and submission guidelines, visit associatedartists.org.

We appreciate your community news. Here’s how you can help us to process your news more efficiently:

*Please give us complete information about the event, such as the sponsor and address, date, time and place of the event and contact information so that the public can contact someone for more information if needed. 

*Please submit items in document form in an email or Word or PDF attachment. 

*Submit photos as attachments to emails as jpegs at least 4 inches wide by 6 inches deep rather than sent on documents. Please send captions with photos. 

*Please do not send jpeg fliers only, since we cannot transfer the information on them into documents.
