Dr. Melicia Whitt-Glover and her family plan to bike again at this year’s Cycling Sunday Fun Day, a free event on Sunday, May 19 that will take riders around the Southeast Gateway and Salem Creek Greenway from 3:30–6 p.m.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Whitt-Glover said. “We plan to be at the event this year and hope to see many more participants.”

City streets in the area will be closed for car-free cycling, and walkers, skaters and scooters are welcome to join the bicyclists. The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County elementary school with the most representation will receive $400 in physical education equipment for the school.

“When people participate in Cycling Sunday, I hope they learn (or remember) just how enjoyable physical activity is and that they can be physically active,” said Whitt-Glover, president and CEO of Gramercy Research Group and a member of the Forsyth County Health Department’s Be Healthy Coalition. “I hope it is a way to jumpstart regular physical activity.”

Helmets are required. Participants should bring their own water bottles; however, water will be provided. Registration and free parking will be at Gateway Family Practice, 390 W. Salem Ave.

For more information about the event, contact Judi Wallace, Winston-Salem Coordinator for Safe Routes to School, at 336-768-3339. In the event of bad weather on May 19, call 336-703-3110.
