Delta Arts to present exhibits and events during Black History Month

“Leo Rucker – Role Model: Beyond Beauty”
Delta Arts will present “Leo Rucker – Role Model: Beyond Beauty,” works from the private collection of Lafayette and Sandy Jones, opening Feb. 6. Curated by Leo Rucker, this stunning exhibition highlights the captivating portrait collection that explores the essence of inspiration, leadership, and empowerment through art. The exhibit celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions across a variety of areas, from business to community service.
The Opening Reception on Thursday, Feb. 6, 6-9 p.m., will offer an opportunity to hear personal comments from the artist. Light refreshments will be served. To RSVP, to go www.deltaartscenter.org/events.
“Building Blocks and Bingo”
On Feb. 7, 6-8 p.m., enjoy a book talk with Devin Freeman and Trajan Baker, a keynote by Terrence Hawkins, and fun activities like Lego building, bingo, and story time. A night of inspiration, history, and community – fun for all ages!
“Vanessa Bonaparte – If I Live to See Tomorrow”
Opening reception for this exhibit of local artist Vanessa Bonaparte will be on Friday, Feb. 8, 6-9 p.m. From her website: “After a long career as an Art Director and experiencing numerous life changes, I came to the realization that it was time to convey some of my memories through painting. While certain memories may bring feelings of sadness, others certainly bring a smile to my face.” Come see her remarkable and inspiring work.
“I, Too” – The Songs and Legacy of Margaret Bonds
Wrapping up Black History Month at Delta Arts will be “I, Too,” featuring the songs of Margaret Bonds, on Feb. 22, 4-8 p.m. Margaret Bonds, a talented composer and pianist, created a profound musical legacy and is most renowned for her collaborations with her friend and poet, Langston Hughes. She made history as the first African American soloist to perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. This afternoon we honor her remarkable compositions through a selection of her greatest works.
