“My mom taught me talent isn’t enough, because everyone has their own genius level of talent. It’s putting the work in that turns your talent into something. That’s the key!” shared Shareef Walker. Born and raised in Winston-Salem, Shareef graduated from Atkins High School, attended Western Carolina University and North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro.

Although the Twin City native has a great education, it’s his mother’s advice that helped him become an amazing self-taught logo designer. Shareef Walker is the owner and CEO of The Logo King in Winston-Salem. He’s quickly becoming one of the go-to guys for logo designs. Let’s meet Shareef and learn about this Logo King.

Tell us how the idea of The Logo King came about.

I’m a musician as well. When I was looking for someone to create a logo for me, it was too expensive. So, I created my own logo. A client loved the design I created for them, and replied, ‘Man this is amazing, you’re the logo king!’ It had a ring to it, so I ran with it.

Take us through a conversation with a client that hasn’t figured out what they’re looking for.

Everything starts with me sending over a list of questions to gather as much info about the brand/company as possible. Then from there, I make suggestions and we go back and forth until we have a direction.

What is the most important advice you can give businesses about branding?

Treat your brand like a first impression. Make it so memorable it’s impossible to forget!

What are the different services you provide?

We provide logo and brand identity design, web design, flyers, content creation, general graphic design, small business consulting, UX/UI and marketing.

What companies have you designed logos for?

I’ve designed logos for hundreds of brands and companies! Dirty Fries, Trust Nightclub, Hope Freight & Logistics, D. Christine, The Shave Cave Barber Lounge, Lewis Realty, Local.Love.WS, just to name a few.

What makes The Logo King stand out from other businesses such as yours?

I don’t sacrifice my designs for money. If our partnership doesn’t make sense or it seems like we’re forcing it, I’m okay with turning down the project. I’m not willing to attach my name to bad or rushed designs just for the sake of making a few extra bucks, because it’s no telling what future opportunities I could ruin for myself and my brand by putting out subpar work.

How do you attract new clients?

I use traditional marketing and social media strategies. But about 80% of my clients come from referrals and word of mouth.

Do you offer any specials?

They change monthly, and I make custom packages depending on the client’s needs. It’s best to check my website and social media platforms each week. We have some great specials going on now.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced during your journey?

I’m becoming equally great as a businessman as I am with my designing logos. That was my greatest challenge.

Who has been your greatest supporter, and do you have a mentor?

Definitely my wife! She’s been my biggest supporter since day one. I have several mentors. I research lots of entrepreneurs in my field online or in a book.

What advice would you give to entrepreneurs?

Never leave money on the table.

How can we reach The Logo King?

www.thelogoking.com. Instagram: @thereallogoking and Facebook: The Logo King.

Do you have a favorite quote or scripture that inspired your vision?

“When one door closes, go through the window.”  I know that sounds crazy but it’s all about determination … sometimes you just must make a way when there is no way.
