IMG_0717 IMG_0801 Recently the Recreation Department conducted it’s second Fall version of the Piedmont Plus Senior Games (PPSG). The Piedmont Plus Senior Games is a series of athletic and arts events that take place in the Spring. It is part of a National organization in where individuals and teams can qualify through their local games to then play on the state level. If they perform well at the State level they may receive an invitation to participate in the National Senior Games. This past Summer the PPSG was well represented at the National Senior Games in Cleveland Ohio with gold medals going to men’s and women’s softball teams, race walkers and a variety of other medals as well.IMG_0804In this year’s Fall Games we offered a wide variety of events. Our first event date was postponed due to rain. We hosted cornhole indoors at Miller Park. The following morning we hosted Table Tennis at Miller Park and then enjoyed beautiful weather outdoors for bocce that afternoon. Race walking and Track and Field events were held on Thursday. Specifically, we pitched the shotput and threw the discus. For several this was their first time, but we had our local Senior World Champion give us instruction on proper technique. Several have expressed the desire to do both in the upcoming PPSG. On Thursday afternoon our friends at Cue-N-Spirits welcomed us in for billiards. On the ensuing week we hosted the archery and shuffleboard events which were postponed originally due to weather. This year’s Fall Games wrapped up with Pickleball in the Education Building on the Fairgrounds.

The Fall Games are just a small sampling of what the PPSG has to offer Seniors 55 and better in Forsyth and Stokes Counties. If you are looking for more information, please go to www.weplay.ws for details. The 2014 dates and information will be posted soon.
