The Colonel Joseph Winston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) presented Maurice Pitts Johnson with a Community Service Award during last week’s Happy Hill Senior Citizen Group meeting at Sims Recreation Center on Jan. 25 for her efforts to clean up Happy Hill Cemetery.

She also received a Surviving Spouse Honor Certificate and Pin from the Department of Defense because her late husband, Lemuel Lafayette Johnson, served in the Army during the Vietnam era. DAR also handed out pins to give to those that served in that era and gave Surviving Spouse Pins to several other women there, who will also be receiving certificates as well.
