After dropping three close games to start the season, the Salem College Basketball Team has done nothing but win.

The team is not only on a 13-game win streak, but they are blowing their competition out of the water (like Saturday’s 81-43 result against Wesleyan College) and setting records with the best start Salem basketball history.

During the 13 game streak, Salem has averaged 77 points per game, while their opponents are just averaging 47 points. The Spirits have outscored their opponents by an average of 29 points during this streak.

“Naturally, I am happy with the wins and the success that our student-athletes are experiencing,” said Head Coach Anita Howard. “It is not only good for them but, for the Spirit fans and the campus community.”

Satavia Taylor of Chicago is currently ranked 11th in the nation in DIII basketball with 22.3 points per game. The team is currently ranked 17th in the nation in scoring defense.

“Attendance has picked up and anticipation of home games is much greater.  However, the team has agreed that although we are winning, there are still things we need to improve on as we continue towards our goal of winning a championship,” said Coach Howard.

The Spirits crushed conference rival Agnes Scott 95-35 in their first meeting. They will meet again on Feb. 8 on the road. Salem also has two games against Wesleyan on their quest for their first conference regular season title.

“I am very pleased that these ladies continue to work hard in practice every day remaining humbled and hungry rather than growing complacent knowing we still have a competitive journey ahead of us,” said Howard.
