JV tournament back for the 32nd year
When the David Lash/Chronicle Tournament first started in 1992, only about eight teams participated. This year, the tournament held Dec. 26-28, will feature two separate divisions and a total of 15 teams. Here’s a look at some of the matchups you see in the first round of the tournament at Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy.
The Chronicle Division
The first game of the tournament will see (4)Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy (WSPA) face off against (5) Glenn at 10:30 a.m. Coming into the matchup WSPA has a 3-3 record and Glenn is 0-4.
At 12 noon (2)College Prep and Leadership Academy will play (7)Parkland. CPLA is 3-1 and Parkland is 0-6.
In the 1:30 p.m. game, last year’s Chronicle Division Champions (3)Carver will play (6)North Forsyth. Coming into the tournament Carver was 2-1 and North was 0-5.
The (1)Lexington Yellow Jackets, who entered the tournament at 4-1, will have a first round bye and will play the winner of the WSPA-Glenn game.
The Lash Division
Teams competing in the Lash Division will begin play at 3 p.m. when long-time rivals (1)West Forsyth and (8)East Forsyth battle in the first round. West won the Lash Division last year and is a heavy favorite to repeat. They enter the tournament with an impressive 6-0 record. East sits at 0-3 on the season.
At 4:30 p.m. (4)Reagan will face off against (5)Reynolds. Reagan is 5-1 and Reynolds is 4-1.
The 6 p.m. game will feature the (2)Mount Tabor Spartans and the (7)West Stokes Wildcats. The Spartans are 7-0 while the Wildcats are 4-0.
The final game of the first round is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. (3)Davie County will play (6)Walkertown. Coming into the tournament Davie is 7-0 and Walkertown is 3-1.
The Championship games for the tournament will be at 6:p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Carver High School on Saturday, Dec. 28.
