Kernersville Spring Folly incorporates more activities which appeal to seniors in the community
Seniors have always enjoyed Kernersville’s Spring Folly as they explore the music, arts & crafts, commercial areas of the festival, and walking through the car show. The Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville will be taking an active role in the community’s Spring Folly on Saturday, May 4th to showcase activities that appeal to seniors.
Alex Scarborough our 2012 Kernersville Senior Idol will perform prior to the afternoon Patsy Cline tribute show that The Shepherd’s Center of Kernersville is sponsoring. From the Piedmont Plus Senior Games activities we will feature Corn Hole, Spincasting, and the Football Throw.
Have you heard about Pickleball and wondered how they play? Not only will there be an opportunity to watch a Pickleball demonstration but also a chance to give it a try while you are there. Other interactive activities will be Shag Dancing and a Sign Language demonstration.
The “Before I Die” wall will be available to all Spring Folly attendees to capture the dreams that they would like to accomplish before they die. You will be amazed at how similar and different these dreams can be.
A sensitivity demonstration will help others in the community grasp a better understanding of some constraints that the aging population encounters. They can experience how having visual and physical limitations can really impact one’s life. In one exercise by wearing tinted thick goggles and a pair of heavy thick gloves a person will experience the frustration of poor eyesight and having severe arthritis as they attempt to open a pill box and then need to decipher which pill is the red pill they should be taking.
Through educating the community on opportunities available for and issues faced by the aging population we strive to meet the needs that can assist the aging to enjoy their senior years. Many activities being showcased exhibit how the seniors in our community, through our Senior Enrichment Center, are able to remain involved in active and social offerings. On May 4th come join us in the celebration of Spring, and enjoy the day of fun on Main Street in Kernersville!
