Lawmakers to host clergy roundtable

The North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus Foundation will hold a panel discussion featuring prominent members of the clergy on Friday, June 14 during its annual (legislative) weekend.

It will take place from 9-11 a.m. at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Conference Center, 4700 Emperor Blvd. in Research Triangle Park/Durham.
The panelists will address the topic, “What is the Role of the Clergy and the Church in Shaping Public Policy?” Winston-Salem’s Dr. John Mendez, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, will join Dr. William Turner, pastor of Mount Level Missionary Baptist Church and professor of the Practice of Homiletics at Duke Divinity School and Rev. BT Cornelius, pastor of Bryant Chapel AME Zion Church of New Bern District, for the discussion.

A Networking Luncheon/Opening Session will follow the discussion at noon. Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III,  pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas, will deliver the keynote address.

At 7 p.m., U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, a Democrat who represents the 43rd District of California, will give the keynote address at the William L. Wainwright Scholarship Banquet.
