Mel Watt is sworn in Monday in Washington, D.C. as head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency by Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx as his wife, Eulada, holds the Bible. Foxx is the former mayor of Charlotte, and Watt, a resident of the Queen City, represented Charlotte and a number of other N.C. cities and towns as the state’s 12th District representative in the U.S. House. Watt also had a ceremonial swearing ceremony at the White House on Monday, with Vice President Joe Biden giving the oath.
