The WSSU choir, under the direction of Dr.  D’Walla Simmons-Burke, met at Carver High School at 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, armed with large, black trash bags. The group of 20 students were dressed in red t-shirts that read  “Singing Rams!” and black jeans to give them a uniformed look. They were prepared to continue a tradition of cleaning up their assigned street before the school year begins. 

Dr. Simmons-Burke and the students were shocked to find that their sign was missing when they drove to the end of Carver School Road! They contacted Councilwoman Barbara Burke about their missing sign. By Aug. 24, Dr. Simmons-Burke had been notified that the sign had been restored

“We adopted Carver School Road more than 30 years ago,” said Dr. Simmons -Burke. “ Each year we meet to clear the grounds before the students return to school. After we clean the grounds and the street, we meet at our adopt-a-street sign and take a photo.”

Thanks to the swift response by Councilwoman Burke, the Rams’ tradition could continue. Another victory for the community with the help of Councilwoman Barbara Burke in the Northeast Ward.
