Salem College expands its program offerings this academic year with the addition of three new majors: political science, biochemistry and design.

“With the addition of leading-edge programs like these, Salem College continues to offer a contemporary liberal arts education that prepares our students to be competitive for graduate school and careers,” said Salem College Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs and Dean of the College Susan Calovini.

The political science major is offered within the Department of History and Political Science and has three concentrations: international relations, political science and public policy. Previously, political science was only offered as a minor.

The biochemistry major is offered within the Department of Chemistry and will serve those science students interested in graduate studies and careers in medicine, medical research, pharmacy and pharmaceutical research, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, nutrition and a number of other related fields.

The design major replaces the former interior design major and offers three concentrations: architectural studies, graphic design and interior design. Both graphic and interior design have been offered previously, but the architectural studies program is new to Salem. The major is offered within the Department of Art and Design.
