New members join youth Sigma club

The Sigma Beta Club of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County held an induction ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 15 in front of an audience of 50 family, friends, Sigma Beta Club members and brothers of Phi Beta Sigma. The ceremony was held at Grace Fellowship Church on Brownsboro Road.

Omarion Bitting, Maurice Cager, Jomaad Cater, Rachard Daniels, Christopher Hinton, Robert Joyner, Kimeko Nelson, Louis Nelson Jr. and James Wilder were the newly inducted members.

Craig Hinton Sr. was the master of ceremonies. Current Sigma Betas took on an active role in the program. Greetings were given by Chuntcey Worthy. Nasir Moore gave the welcome, and Issiah DeShazor read the purpose.

Louis Nelson Sr. gave the the keynote speech.

“This is the time when becoming a better person and a better student academically is the right thing to do for personal as well as future success,” he said. “Seek to have a greater sense of pride in how they conduct themselves, not only in the presence of their parents but also when they think no one else is watching.”

The Delta Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is the sponsoring chapter for the local Sigma Beta Club, a youth auxiliary of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity for males ages 8-18. The club’s motto is, “Next Generation of Leaders Accepting the Responsibility and Loving the Challenge.”

The Delta Sigma Chapter has the distinction of being the International Alumni Chapter of the Year for 2013. It was chartered on Dec. 10, 1923 and will celebrate 90 years of service to the Winston-Salem community in December.
