Novant Health opened a new easy-to-access after hours family medicine clinic on Oct. 21. It aims to provide an alternative to daytime primary care appointments for people who live or work in north Davidson County and parts of Forsyth County.

Novant Health Easy Care serves patients from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Located inside Novant Health Friedberg Family Medicine at 5010 Peters Creek Parkway (Oliver’s Crossing shopping center), the service can see both Novant Health and non-Novant Health patients by appointment or by walk-in. Patient care will be provided by Allison Brewer, a family nurse practitioner trained and supervised by Dr. Lon Morgan of Friedberg Family Medicine.

“Many people have jobs where it’s hard to leave during business hours to get their medical needs met, or to take a child or parent to see a medical provider,” Brewer said. “Novant Health Easy Care will make it easy for busy commuters and families to see a medical provider on weekday evenings or Saturdays when it’s convenient for them. Parents will appreciate that we offer either scheduled or walk-in appointments that won’t disrupt children’s school schedules.”

Brewer, who received her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) at Duke University, said that same-day appointments will typically be available for services ranging from caring for short-term illnesses to managing chronic conditions or providing immunizations and annual physical examinations. She added that the clinic will have Novant Health’s MyChart electronic medical records system, which more than 200,000 Novant Health patients use to manage their health needs such as to request appointments and prescription refills.

Dr. Morgan said that additional easy-to-access primary care clinics are likely to open in the future.  He explained that as more newly insured people obtain coverage through the Affordable Care Act, requests for primary care appointments may increase, encouraging healthcare organizations to be more innovative and flexible in how they meet customers’ needs.
