Old Salem Museums & Gardens is offering a trip to the North Carolina Museum of History on Saturday, May 18 to view the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation that is dated Sept. 22, 1862 and signed by President Abraham Lincoln.  The document is on loan from the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

The Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation will be featured in the exhibit “Freedom Coming, Freedom for All,” which is being presented by the North Carolina Freedom Monument Park and the North Carolina Museum of History.  Mechanics and Farmers Bank is one of the sponsors of the exhibit.

I encourage parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts to take youth to see this extraordinary and important exhibition.”

The bus will leave the Old Salem Visitor Center, 900 Old Salem Rd., at 8 a.m. and return at approximately 5 p.m. on May 18. The visit will include a lunch and shopping excursion at Crabtree Valley Mall.

The cost of the trip is $30 per person, $28 per person for Friends of Old Salem or $20 per person for students. A group rate for groups of 14 or more is available at $25 per person. Lunch is not included. Pre-registration is required by calling 1-800-441-5305 by May 1 or until the bus is full.
