Reconsidered Goods welcomes John Gibbs as reuse resident artist

Greensboro – Reconsidered Goods (RG), Greensboro’s only nonprofit creative reuse center, proudly welcomes visual artist John Gibbs as this month’s artist-in-resident. This program, supported in part by the North Carolina Arts Council, invests in local artists by providing space, resources, and community engagement. John’s work centers around using cardboard to develop three-dimensional sculptures that raise awareness about “consumerism and what we value while also reflecting on our broader environmental challenges and what we are doing as consumers with recyclables and waste.”
John is currently working on a new cardboard sculpture within the Reconsidered Goods creative reuse center. The public is welcome to stop by and meet the artist while he works. John remarks, “Through this piece, I hope to provoke thoughtful discussions about sustainability and our responsibility toward the planet. It’s a reminder that the choices we make as consumers can have significant consequences for wildlife and the environment. Ultimately, I aspire to inspire others to consider their impact and take action to protect our world.”
On Friday, March 7, from 4-6 p.m., the public is invited to stop by Reconsidered Goods for an artist reception and exhibition. This event is free to attend.
Reconsidered Goods (RG) is thrilled to launch this program that invites artists to discover new ways to work with repurposed and recycled materials. Each artist is provided space, a weekly stipend, and materials from the resale store. At the end of the residency, artists design a free community program, event, exhibition or performance to engage the public in their creative process.
The retail store is located at 4118 Spring Garden St., Greensboro. More information about Reconsidered Goods retail store and education programs can be found at www.reconsideredgoods.org.
