Saints Home plans exciting Women’s Day

Saints Home United Methodist, 1390 Thurmond St., will hold Women’s Day on Sunday, May 19 during the 11:30 morning worship service.

Artist and motivational speaker Monique Johnson will speak. Mae Belle Eccles and June Soares will be awarded UMW Special Mission Recognition Pins for their tireless service on the behalf of others. Martha Jo Campbell, Dianne MacThompson and Tim Jackson Jr. will be honored with UMC Laity Service Awards. This year, the church will recognize two women with the 2013 Woman of the Year Award. If you add the years of service of both Eva Young and Mae Belle Eccles, they would total more than 80 years of contributions to their church and community.

Johnson has gained national acclaim for overcoming the odds. She is only 24-inches tall due the dyastropic dysplasia dwarfism she was born with. At birth, doctors gave her only six years to live, but Monique has been proving the doctors wrong for 26 years now. She loves life and has embraced it with an open heart, an open mind and a can-do spirit that knows no limits.

A recent graduate of Elon University School of Law, Johnson is often invited to speak to groups about meeting life’s challenges. She talks of overcoming the doubts and fears that come from external sources as well as from within.

Saints Home Pastor Ronnie Roseboro and congregation extend an invitation for all to attend this special service.
