After it was sent back to the public safety committee for discussion earlier this summer, the Winston-Salem City Council has approved an amendment that will allow wildlife officers to discharge rifles to shoot deer within the boundaries of Smith Reynolds Airport.

During the City Council meeting earlier this week, Sen. Paul Lowe presented Mayor Pro Tempore Vivian Burke with a plaque honoring her decades of service to the City Council and the citizens of Winston-Salem. In other business, an amendment that would allow state and federal wildlife officers to discharge rifles for the purpose of eliminating deer within the boundaries of Smith Reynolds Airport was sent back to the Public Safety Committee for further discussion.

A little over a year after the Winston-Salem City Council approved a lease for Elizabeth’s Pizza to lease space in the newly renovated Union Station, the family-owned restaurant chain decided to pull out of the deal.

During a meeting on Monday, April 16, the Winston-Salem City Council voted to approve $3 million for the construction of a brand new Belview Community Center. The funds for the new community center is part of the council’s newly adopted Emerging Capital Needs Program which is designed to address the needs of the city that were presented by the mayor and city council earlier this year.

If N.C. House Representatives Donny Lambeth and Debra Conrad have their way, some drastic changes could be on the horizon for the Winston-Salem City Council and the citizens of the Twin City.

During their meeting on Monday, Feb. 18 the Winston-Salem City Council adopted a resolution awarding a contract to MGT of America Consulting, LLC to conduct a disparity study looking at the effectiveness of the city’s current M/WBE (Minority Women Business Enterprise) Program.
