The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem will present “What They Have” by Kate Robin on Jan. 17-19 at Mountcastle Forum, located in the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts, 251 N. Spruce Street in Winston-Salem. Performances will be Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

In “What They Have,” Connie and Jonas live a seemingly perfect life, basking in the comforts of privilege and stability, while their artist friends grapple with uncertainty and sacrifice. But beneath the surface, cracks begin to appear, revealing unexpected truths and vulnerabilities. Through moments of humor and heartache, this poignant play explores the complexities of relationships, the weight of societal expectations, and the profound impact of human connection.

“Directing a play means bringing your innermost thoughts to life for others to witness,” remarked director Janel Boyd. “I can confidently say that this cast has made those thoughts come to life. When I read the script, I found myself transported back to my own experiences that echo the content of this show, confronting all the challenges that Kate Robin weaves together for these characters. The most effective way to grow from pain is to transform it into something positive. I feel incredibly fortunate to coach this cast in expressing that life will always be a series of heartache and joy, which is exactly what they are bringing to the stage.

“I have been a part of The Little Theatre of Winston Salem family since 2012, and I am sincerely grateful to be part of The Little Theatre’s 90th season.”

The cast is as follows:

Connie – Daphne Escalante

Jonas – Dillon Sparks

Suzanne – Sarah Chrysson

Matt – Drew Baker

“What They Have” runs for approximately one hour and 15 minutes, with no intermission. It is recommended for ages 16+. Tickets start at $18, not including taxes and fees.
