U.S. Rep. Ellison to address local Dems

U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, a Democrat who represents Minnesota’s Fifth District, will give the keynote address at the Forsyth County Democratic Party Spring Gala on Friday, April 11.
The gala will start at 7 p.m. at the Millennium Center, 101 W. 5th St. Tickets are $40. There are also $150 tickets available that include a VIP reception that starts at 5:30 p.m. There are also a number of sponsorship offers available.
Billed as an “exciting evening of dining, dancing and Democrats,” the gala provides proceeds that will enable county Democrats to educate and motivate voters. Special awards will be given to Democratic mavericks Bert Bennett and Annie Brown Kennedy.
Ellison is a rising star in the Democratic Party. He made history with his election in 2007, becoming the first Muslim member of Congress and the first black elected to the House from Minnesota.
A former member of the Minnesota House, Ellison, an attorney, serves as the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Chief Deputy Whip for the 113th Congress and on the House Committee on Financial Services. He recently released his memoir, “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”
Ellison is the brother of Eric Ellison, a Winston-Salem attorney and prominent member of the Forsyth County Democratic Party.
