The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Winston-Salem will hold a blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, May 4 to celebrate the completion of the permanent home of its Community Clothes Closet.

An outreach ministry of the Fellowship, the Clothes Closet has provided free used clothing in good condition to low-income area residents since 2010. Open on Saturdays, the Closet averages 40-60 visitors per week, with occasionally as many as 100 visitors.  Before the new house was renovated for the Closet, the program operated in the Fellowship entrance foyer, with volunteers setting up and taking down clothing racks each week.

The new building’s permanent displays will enable visitors to browse and obtain clothing more easily. Members of the congregation have donated thousands of clothing items, worked at the Closet and renovated the small house on the property that is now the Closet’s permanent home.

The public is invited to share in the celebration from 2–3 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
