W-S-based CCFL team wins championship

The Carolina Renegades won its first Central Carolina Football League Championship on Saturday, Nov. 3 in Newton after beating the Catawba Hornets 35-8.

Mike Davis scored on a 50-yard run on the first play of the game. Then Quarterback Jeremiah Marable completed an eight yard pass to Jermaine Adams. Evan Selman kicked three field goals before halftime and one in the third quarter.

The Winston-Salem-based Renegades led 19–0 at the half. In third quarter, Marques “Bus” Newman picked up a fumble and returned it for 35 yards. The Hornets scored their only points with nine minutes and 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Renegades scored the last points of the game with Travis Floyd running the ball in from 30 yards. Selman was named the Offensive Player of the Game; Newman won the Defensive Player of the Game title.
