Andi Henderson has been hired to lead the Lady Rams. Ken Murczek is WFU’s new coach.

Henderson is making her head-coaching debut at Winston-Salem State after assistant coaching stints at her alma mater, Catawba College, and Greensboro College.

“I am really excited about the opportunity that WSSU has given me. I want to especially thank Mr. William ‘Bill’ Hayes and Mrs. Tonia Walker for giving me the opportunity to lead this program,” Henderson said. “I am excited to get in the gym for training and to start moving this program in a different direction.”

As a coach, Henderson has guided the development of many top players, including two all-conference players at Greensboro College and five all-conference players at Catawba.

As a player, Henderson was a three-year all-conference performer at Catawba College, graduating in 2008 with a degree in sports management. During her career, she set school records for assists in a match (83), per set average (12.94), and in a career (4,119). She also ranked second for assists in a season with 1,605.

Murczek spent the past three seasons as the head coach of the University of North Texas volleyball squad.

In the three years he led the program, Murczek guided the Mean Green to 63 wins, including 20 wins in his first season at the helm, and a program-record 26-12 mark in 2012.

Last year’s squad also made the Sun Belt Conference finals for the first time in program history. Both the 2010 and 2012 teams won the Sun Belt West Division titles as Murczek became the fastest coach in North Texas volleyball history to win 50 matches.

“I am very grateful for this tremendous opportunity and can’t wait to meet the team,” said Murczek. “Wake Forest is already a premier academic university and my vision is to move the volleyball program up the ladder in the very competitive Atlantic Coast Conference.”
