Women’s group marks 42 years
Southeast Region of National Women of Achievement Inc. recently celebrated 42 years at its Biennial National Conference (CON-WOA) in Winston-Salem.
The organization was founded by Maudest Walls Stewart of Houston Texas in 1975. Stewart served as the first national president.
The organization says it will continue to fulfill Stewart’s visions of encouraging youth to strive for high morals and scholastic standards in career fields of their choice, provide scholarships, inspire women to excel in their chosen professions, encourage membership to become an active part of community activities and to improve the status of women in all phases of life.
The group says current national president, Achiever Jodi Jenkins Oliphant, was delighted with the group’s programs. The past regional director, Achiever Shirley Eaton, worked relentlessly, dedicating many hours to ensure a successful convention, the group says.
The Southeast Region was organized in November 1988, in Winston Salem. “We have since issued over $25,000 in scholarships, engaged in senior programs, assault on illiteracy, children’s school needs, donation to homeless, and women’s shelters. Our region consist of chapters in Winston-Salem, Pfafftown, Kernersville, Clemmons, Rural Hall and Charlotte,” the organization said in a press release.
The newly elected regional director is Achiever Gwendolyn Clark.
