Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) has named Freida Lashmit interim chief financial officer and will serve in the position through June 30.
Lashmit has worked as a budget coordinator with the district for more than 10 years and has been with WS/FCS for 30 years. She previously served as the interim chief financial officer in 2019. Lashmit will step in for Thomas Krans, who resigned last month, just days after an audit revealed the district overspent by $16 million in 2024.
“Lashmit will step into the role to provide experienced leadership and support to the Finance Department during this transitional period. She brings more than 30 years of service to the district’s Finance Department, having held various roles throughout her tenure,” the district said in a press release.
To help with the transition process, budget issues and ensure a smooth fiscal year-end closeout, the district is partnering with HIL Consultants, a school finance firm. The firm is working on a plan to help the district meet financial obligations.
The district will begin the process of advertising for a permanent chief financial officer for the 2025-2026 school year.
