Born and raised in Hickory, Cadet Malone attended Hickory High School, where he served as the Cadet Battalion Commander for the school’s JROTC Tornado Battalion. He is enrolled in the WSSU ROTC program and is a member of the school’s marching band.

Born in Oak Harbor, Wash., Cadet Miller, whose father served in the U.S. Navy, has had a lifelong passion for military service. As a student at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology in Charlotte, she enrolled in JROTC and quickly rose through the ranks for her exemplary leadership and self-discipline. Cadet Miller served as Battalion Executive Officer and Co-Captain of both the Drill Team and Rifle Team. Today, she is enrolled in the ROTC program at Winston-Salem State, is a Chancellor’s Scholar in the Honors Program and was recently named to the Dean’s List.

Command Sgt. Maj. Roger Howard and CIAA alumnus Lt. Col. Timothy Chapman, both of U.S. Army Cadet Command, presented the scholarships.

“It’s an honor to present these ROTC scholarships to Kevin and Breanna during the CIAA Tournament,” said Howard. “The Army’s continued partnership with the CIAA reflects our common goal of preparing the nation’s young people for successful futures through investments in higher education and leadership development.”

For the past three years, the Army has partnered with the CIAA to develop and promote leadership, teamwork and academic excellence. Malone and Miller are two of more than 60 ROTC Cadets at CIAA institutions receiving funds for tuition and educational fees through the Army ROTC program. More than $750,000 in scholarships are awarded annually to CIAA students on the path to Army officership.
