The Youth Educational Enhancement Program (YEEP) at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 950 File St., will hold its annual parent/child orientation session on Friday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.

Now in its 12th year, the program offers free tutoring in computer literacy, mathematics, science and language arts for students in grades Pre-K through 12. Classes are held on Monday (computer literacy and mathematics), Tuesday (5th grade science) and Thursday (language arts). All sessions run from 6–7 p.m., with the exception of computer literacy, which is from 5:30–6 p.m. At the end of each year, all students are celebrated at an appreciation and recognition service. Free bus transportation is also available to students.

To satisfy its objective of preparing students to meet and exceed grade level proficiency in the targeted disciplines, YEEP engages the volunteered expertise of a capable and dedicated instructional staff, along with sponsors for relevant support services and non-instructional components. All administrative and teaching personnel are certified, with most holding advanced degrees.

This year’s sessions will begin on Monday, Sept. 16 and will follow the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools’ calendar.

Willie Richardson, who has served as director of the program for the past 11 years, has resigned and has been named director emeritus. Administrative duties are now the responsibility of a team consisting of Co-directors Valarie Harris and Dr. Marie Williamson and Administrative Assistant Sylvia Sullivan. Dr. Serenus T. Churn Sr. is the church’s pastor.
