Fifteen-year-old Cameron Witherspoon was invited to play in the 2019 Wyndham Championship Pro Am on Monday, July 29. This was Cameron’s first Pro Am tournament appearance, sponsored by First Tee of the Triad, and as one would expect, he was nervous.

Witherspoon played with five other First Tee golfers, along with the PGA Tour Pro Thomas Bonney. Three of the First Tee players caddied the front 9, then switched off and played the back 9. Cameron caddied the front 9 holes and played the back. Going into the back 9, the score was -2. Bonney managed to score another -2 on the back, while Cameron scored -3. Together the Pro/Am’s shot a -7.

Cameron was very happy with his performance, although one of his birdies could have been an eagle, but hit the flag pin and came back out. He enjoyed the experience at the Wyndham and hopes to get another invite next year.

“It was pretty exciting and I was a little bit nervous at first, but I settled down and just went out and had fun,” said Witherspoon. “This just shows me what I can do and it tells me that I can go out there and compete with anyone.”
