Ta’Nisha Monique Cupcakes re-opens with ribbon cutting ceremony

After closing the doors earlier this month to make necessary repairs to the building and kitchen, Ta’Nisha Monique Cupcakes officially reopened last week with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Located on North Liberty Street, Ta’Nisha Monique Cupcakes has been serving up sweet treats since last fall when founder and owner Ta’Nisha Kimbrough decided to transform a portion of a garage into a one-of-kind bakery. With signature items, old favorites and A-1 customer service, Ta’Nisha Monique’s Cupcakes quickly became known throughout the community and elsewhere. Just a few months after opening the bakery, the single mother of two was asked to make a birthday cake for nationally known recording artist Ella Mai, and earlier this year The Chronicle recognized Ta’Nisha Monique Cupcakes as its Business of the Month.

Despite her growing popularity, on the night of July 8, Ta’Nisha Monique’s fell victim to a burglary. The suspect who was later arrested stole a cell phone and damaged several pieces of equipment. Officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) later determined that the intruder entered the bakery through a side window and was responsible for several other recent break-ins in the area.

After word of the burglary hit social media, the community rallied around Ta’Nisha with the hashtag, #BuyOutTheBakery, a clarion call to come out and support the bakery. Word spread like wildfire, gaining the attention of several local news stations and elected officials, including Mayor Allen Joines, who attended the ribbon cutting last week.

“We read about the unfortunate situation that happened here and then we read about how the community came together, so I wanted to be here today to share in this reopening,” continued Joines. “Small businesses are the heart and soul of this city and what makes us really come along and we appreciate you and your investment in our community.”

County Commissioner Tonya McDaniel was also on hand during the ribbon cutting ceremony to lend Ta’Nisha words of encouragement. McDaniel said, “We know that no weapons that are formed shall prosper … Ta’Nisha, your best is yet to come.”

Before cutting the ribbon, Ta’Nisha thanked everyone for their support. She told the crowd of more than two dozen supporters, “You all are my support and I really appreciate it.”
