Hometown Legend Award Honoree

Practice and persistence made Chris Paul an NBA superstar, but the love and guidance of Charles and Robin Paul made him a gentleman.

We all know about Chris’ rise: the breakout seasons at West Forsyth High; the milestones achieved at Wake Forest; and the quick evolution to NBA phenom. But the Olympic gold medals, All Star game appearances and League records have never gone to his head; Chris remains the same down-to-earth fellow that we all knew back when.

Raised by his parents to hold God, family and community close, Paul is one of the sports world’s good guys, and unabashedly so. As articulate and affable as he is athletically talented, Chris makes us proud each time his name is linked with Forsyth County.

The Paul family’s benevolence makes us proud as well. Through the CP3 Foundation, which was started in tribute to Chris’ late grandfather, the Paul family supports a litany of local and national programs, including many that provide brighter smiles and tomorrows for children. The foundation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past seven years to support an ever-growing list of causes. Chris’ charity work has twice earned him the NBA’s Community Assist Award for the League’s most philanthropic-minded player.

Chris has soared to unimaginable heights, yet has continually shown that we, the residents of his hometown, will also have a place in his heart; that sentiment is very much mutual.

For always making his friends, family members and hometown beam with pride and satisfaction, The Chronicle and the community it serves are proud to honor Chris Paul as a Hometown Legend.
