Family and Friends Day will be held at St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church on Sunday, January 19.

Church School will begin at 8:45 a.m. Superintendent Sylvia Burts-Hoskins said the morning speakers will be Deacon James Lomax and Kimberly Howard-Green. Morning worship will begin at 10 a.m. with Minister of Music Towanna VanEaton. Pastor Steven L. Lyons will deliver the word.

The church membership will be divided into “Families,” representing the fore-parents of African Methodism, Bishop and Mrs. Richard (Sarah) Allen, for the occasion.

The family with the most guests in attendance will be recognized as the Family of the 2013-2014 conference year. Past families who have won the honor are those of Pastor and Mrs. Steven L. Lyons, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Tuck and Deacon James and Mrs. Sandra H. Lomax.

The public is cordially invited to attend. St. James AME Church is located at 1501 N. Patterson Ave., across from the United States Post Office.

Under Lyons’ leadership, St. James African Methodist continues to grow in spirit, faith and congregants. Its ministry and outreach programs include Family BluePrints, a Prison Ministry and, most recently, the St. James Boutique, a clothing give-away for the community.
