After months of uncertainty, the winners of the elections held by the Winston-Salem Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) are in.

On Tuesday, May 26, members of the organization – those who would have been able to vote on the date of the originally scheduled election on Nov. 19, 2014 – submitted their votes to elect a new president and other members of the board.

The results were posted on the door of the NAACP Enrichment Center, 4130 Oak Ridge Road.

Isaac “Ike” Howard was elected president for the second time. Howard won the election in January, but results were overturned after discrepancies in the voting procedure.

In an interview on Monday, June 1, Howard said he looks forward to getting to work, helping the community.

“During our first meeting, all the members of the executive committee will be in attendance to answer all questions,” Howard said. “I’m ready to get to work.”

Members of the executive committee are: James Shaw, Gloria Stinson, Linda Sutton, Jamie Transou and Dr. Richard Wyderski.

Other elected officials are: Stuart W. Cooke, second vice president; Harry James Jr., third vice president; Mittie P. Glymph-Cooke, treasurer. Stephen Hairston, assistant treasurer.

No one was elected for first vice president, secretary or assistant secretary, according to the results posted on the door of the enrichment center.

The first official meeting under the new leadership will be held on June 9, at the Carl H. Russell Sr. Community Center, 3521 Carver School Road. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and will give those in attendance a chance to meet the executive committee and ask any questions they may have on the future of the organization.
