Junior point guard Chelsea Douglas led five Demon Deacons in double-figures as the Wake Forest women’s basketball team rolled to an 88-53 exhibition victory Monday evening over Anderson.

Douglas scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half to help the Deacs build an insurmountable lead. Douglas also finished with three steals and led the team with three three-pointers.

Junior center Lindsy Wright finished with 13 points and six rebounds while sophomore Dearica Hamby also notched six rebounds to go along with her 12 points and three steals. Seniors Sandra Garcia and Asia Williams were the other two Deacons in double-figures, with 11 points apiece.

As a team, the Deacons shot 51.4 percent from the floor and were 5-of-10 from three-point range. Wake forced Anderson in 32 turnovers and converted them into 35 points.

The game was close for the first 15 minutes as the Deacons couldn’t build any more than a seven point advantage. But over the final five and half minutes of the first half, the Deacs stepped-up their defensive pressure and built a lead. Thanks to seven points from Wright, Wake Forest closed the half on a 14-3 run and took a 41-26 lead into halftime.

The Deacons didn’t take their foot off the gas at the start of the second half and extended the lead to 20 points just four minutes in. From there, Wake cruised home to an 88-53 victory.

Wake Forest will open the regular season on Nov. 11 against Coppin State at 2 p.m. at the Joel Coliseum.
