Students at The Centers for Exceptional Children (CFEC) will have new equipment and educational materials thanks to the most successful Rusty LaRue Charity Golf Classic in its 13-year history.

Approximately 225 guests attended the tournament kick-off and silent auction and 192 golfers teed-up at Bermuda Run Country Club, all contributing to record earnings of $126,000.
“Absolutely amazing,” said LaRue, a former Wake Forest University multi-sport athlete who played pro-ball for the NBA’s Chicago Bulls. “I am so proud of everyone for their effort and putting in the time to make this happen. I feel truly blessed to be associated with such a wonderful organization and dedicated group of people who make miracles happen every day.”

Mike Jeske, chairman of the tournament committee and a CFEC board member said, “No one has been more important than Rusty LaRue (a current assistant WFU basketball coach) in our efforts to raise resources to provide our children the tools they need to succeed in the very important business of growing up and like Rusty, I can’t say enough about (Craig Gunckel and Rob Kincaid of sponsor RockTenn), who were instrumental in this year’s record performance. ”

The Centers for Exceptional Children, created in 2010 by the merger of The Special Children’s School and The Children’s Center, are dedicated to serving children with developmental delays, orthopedic disabilities and other health impairments.
