North Forsyth track and field athletes participated in the Marvin Ridge Invitational in Waxhaw last weekend, sweeping the hurdle events.

Junior’s Gevontae Hardy and Brandon Gambrell split the hurdle events with wins in the 110m high hurdles and 300m low hurdle races on a very windy day.  Hardy began the sweep by winning the 110m hurdles in 15.7 seconds.  He not only walked away with the gold medal, but also the Eric Streeter Award for the outstanding male hurdler. Parkland’s Ebony Williams won the female honor.

Gambrell probably had his best day ever as a hurdler.  After posting a second-place finish in the 110m hurdles, Gambrell went on to win the 300m hurdles in a Regional Championship with a qualifying time of 41.35, a new personal best.

June Lisa Foster remained consistent in her quest for a state championship title in May.  She took the bronze medal in a highly-contested 100m race, running another personal best time of 12.6.  She also helped the girl’s 4x100m relay squad (with teammates Tatiyanna Henry, Janneca Williams and Sykonza Evans) win their heat in a season best time 53.3. Other personal best times were produced by Rosa Martinez in the 400m and Tatiyanna Henry in the 100m dash.

North’s next meet is today (Thursday, March 21) against Ledford and Southern Guilford. The team will compete for a team title this weekend at the Viking Invitational at North Stokes.
