The Winston-Salem Psi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has implemented a plan for a year of service in the local community.

Under the leadership of new Basileus, Min. Keith Vereen,  the chapter kicked off the start of the plan in  September with a new administration and a new direction that will emphasize community service.

The chapter’s newly-elected officers agree with that the fraternity’s cardinal principles of “Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift” need to be represented in all that the chapter seeks to accomplish.

The other new officers are: Vice-Basileus Cassius Smith; Keeper of Records and Seal Linwood Jerald; Assistant Keeper of Records and Seal Kevin Poplar; Keeper of Finance Wayne Hosch; Assistant Keeper of Finance Billy Friende; Chaplain Bishop Sherwood Davis, Keeper of Peace George Redd; and Parliamentarian Terry Andrews.

Members say the chapter intends to be a catalyst for measurable change in Forsyth County.  The chapter’s current focus is working to get out the vote by providing transportation support to get voters to the polls, and serving as tutors at Hall-Woodward Elementary School. Future endeavors will include feeding the hungry, assisting the homeless, promoting medical screenings and providing after school tutoring at its Omega Friendship Center on Patterson Avenue. Psi Phi Chapter will also serve to foster relationships with other organizations, churches and agencies that also seek to make a difference.
