Young ministry leader headed to national competition

Taryn Bonner, a rising senior at Mt. Tabor High School, is headed to the week-long Assemblies of God National Student Fine Arts Festival in Columbus, Ohio next week.
In April, she placed first with a perfect score in the category of American Sign Language music interpretation. Her sign language group also took first place for the second year in a row.
Taryn also advanced in the categories of vocal solo, small vocal ensemble and choir. She regularly appears in dramatic performances at Mt. Tabor and is a member of the popular “Spartanettes” a cappella group. Taryn is a frequent soloist for the school’s choir and choral ensemble. She is a member of the National Honor Society, STAND and the GSA. Taryn is the daughter of Lemelia and Terry Bonner and the granddaughter of Maurice P. Johnson and the late Lemuel L. Johnson.
“It’s great to see these students do so well, but raising funds for travel expenses to nationals is always a challenge. This is Taryn’s third year in Fine Arts and each year she’s advanced in more categories,” said her mother. “The more you win, the higher the entrance fees. So, yes, we’re doing everything we can in the way of fundraising right now.”
Taryn welcomes opportunities to introduce sign language music interpretation to area churches and groups.
